Structural Materials — Built to Last in Lebanon's Climate

A wardrobe's structural integrity begins with the carcass — the internal box that carries the weight of doors, drawers, and stored clothing. The choice of carcass material is the most consequential decision in wardrobe manufacturing, and the one most frequently compromised by lower-cost competitors in the Lebanese market.

KLOZET® by KITWOOD builds every wardrobe carcass from 18mm moisture-resistant HDF (High Density Fibreboard) panels. This specification is essential in Lebanon's coastal environment: Beirut's summer humidity — regularly above 80% — rapidly degrades standard particleboard carcasses, causing swelling, surface delamination, and loss of structural rigidity. HDF panels resist moisture absorption and maintain their dimensional stability across Lebanon's full range of climate conditions, from coastal Beirut apartments to mountain villas in Broummana and Faraya.

Internal shelving within KLOZET® wardrobes is constructed from the same 18mm HDF specification — adjustable on 32mm Euroscrew drilling for maximum flexibility — with a load-rated capacity of 30–40kg per shelf. Shelf adjustment does not require tools; shelves can be repositioned by hand after installation, accommodating changes in storage needs without requiring a call-out.

The back panel of every KLOZET® wardrobe is a 6mm HDF sheet, finished on both sides. This is structurally important: a thin, single-finished back panel — common in lower-cost fitted wardrobes — allows the interior to feel cheap, transmits moisture from the wall surface into the wardrobe interior, and provides insufficient resistance to racking (the tendency of tall cabinets to lean).

Door Finishes & Surface Options

The door finish defines the wardrobe's character and its relationship to the surrounding bedroom interior. KLOZET® offers four primary finish families — each with distinct visual properties, maintenance profiles, and design possibilities.

Lacquer finishes are the most specified across KLOZET®'s range. A multi-coat spray-and-cure lacquer — applied and oven-cured in KITWOOD's Zouk Mosbeh facility — delivers a flawless, seamless surface across the full door area. Lacquer is available in any RAL or NCS colour, in both matte and gloss sheens. Its advantages for Lebanon are substantial: lacquer is impervious to surface moisture, resists yellowing from sunlight, cleans easily, and can be colour-matched with precision to walls, bedding, and furnishings. Matte lacquer is the dominant choice in contemporary Lebanese interior design; gloss lacquer is specified for high-contrast design statements.

Veneer brings the warmth and natural variation of real wood to the wardrobe. KLOZET® sources wood veneers from FSC-certified suppliers and finishes them with UV-stable topcoats that resist fading from Lebanon's intense sun. Oak — natural, fumed, and grey-stained — is our most requested veneer species. Walnut provides a darker, richer aesthetic for master bedroom wardrobes where a more opulent character is required. Eucalyptus is specified for its fine, even grain pattern and light, contemporary tone.

Glass door systems — clear, frosted, and smoked — allow the wardrobe interior to be partially visible while maintaining containment. Glass doors work particularly well in dressing areas, master bedroom walk-in closets, and rooms where a lighter visual weight is desired. KLOZET® glass doors are available in frameless (with a concealed aluminium edge) or slim-frame systems in silver, black, or gold anodised profiles.

Premium laminate (HPL) surfaces are available for secondary wardrobes and utilitarian storage. Thermally fused to the substrate, HPL resists scratching and moisture and is available in an extensive range of colours and textures — including convincing wood-grain effects at a more accessible price point than natural veneer.

Sliding vs Hinged Door Systems

The choice between sliding and hinged doors has significant practical consequences for the room and the daily use of the wardrobe. KLOZET® manufactures both systems — and our designers discuss the right choice for each bedroom during the free consultation.

Hinged door wardrobes provide full, unobstructed access to the wardrobe interior: every centimetre of hanging rail, every shelf, and every drawer is immediately accessible when the doors are open. The trade-off is door swing clearance — a standard 60cm-deep hinged wardrobe door requires 60cm of floor space in front of the unit to open freely. In Lebanese apartments where bedroom layouts are compact, this can conflict with bed placement or walkway widths.

Hinged doors are the ideal choice for: rooms with generous floor space, walk-in closets where no door swing conflicts with movement, alcove installations where doors open against a side wall, and wardrobes where full internal access is a priority.

Sliding door wardrobes eliminate door swing entirely, requiring no clearance in front of the unit. This makes them practical for compact Lebanese apartment bedrooms and for rooms where the bed is positioned close to the wardrobe. The trade-off: at any given moment, the sliding panel configuration means approximately half the wardrobe width is accessible (one set of panels is always covering the other). For most day-to-day dressing routines this is entirely practical; for users who frequently access the full wardrobe width simultaneously, a three- or four-panel configuration reduces the limitation.

KLOZET® sliding systems use German-engineered top-hung tracks that carry the panel weight overhead — eliminating bottom track dust accumulation and allowing a clean, continuous floor surface. Soft-close dampers at each end of the track cushion panel travel and eliminate slamming.

Hardware — Blum Soft-Close Throughout

KLOZET® fits Blum (Austria) hardware as standard across all wardrobe systems — the same brand specified by the world's leading kitchen and cabinet manufacturers, and tested to 100,000 operating cycles under laboratory conditions.

Blum CLIP top hinges for hinged wardrobe doors incorporate BLUMOTION soft-close damping — cushioning the door in the final degrees of closing and eliminating mechanical impact on the frame and cabinet body. Hinges are three-dimensionally adjustable after installation, allowing perfect door alignment across the full height and width of the wardrobe.

Blum TANDEMBOX drawer runners power KLOZET® wardrobe drawers — with full-extension travel, 40kg load capacity per runner pair, and integrated soft-close. KLOZET® drawer boxes in wardrobes are specified in steel-sided systems for their rigidity and lateral stability, which is particularly important in wide wardrobe drawers.

Blum pull-out trouser rails, pull-down hanging rails, and tie/belt pull-outs are integrated into the internal configuration design where specified. These accessories use the same Blum system platform as the drawers and hinges — ensuring consistent quality and interoperability across the full internal fittings package.

LED lighting integration: KLOZET® installs motion-activated LED strip lighting inside wardrobes — either along the top interior of the wardrobe (illuminating the full interior from above), or along the sides of the hanging rail sections. LED puck lights inside drawer interiors are available as a premium option. All LED systems are low-voltage (12V or 24V) with remote-controllable dimmers.

Durability & Climate Considerations in Lebanon

Lebanon presents a demanding set of conditions for interior cabinetry: coastal humidity in Beirut and the littoral zone, temperature extremes between coastal summers and mountain winters, and the mechanical demands of daily use by large families.

KLOZET® wardrobes are specified to perform across this full range. Carcass materials are selected for their dimensional stability under moisture variation. Surface finishes are tested for resistance to Lebanon's UV intensity. Hardware is sourced from manufacturers who test to real-world cycle counts that exceed a normal product lifetime.

Humidity resistance: The primary climate risk to wardrobes in Lebanon is moisture infiltration from external walls — particularly in older Beirut apartment buildings. KLOZET® recommends installing a 10mm proprietary spacer between the wardrobe back panel and the external wall, creating an air gap that prevents the wall's moisture from transferring into the carcass. This detail is discussed during the design consultation and is standard practice on all KLOZET® external-wall installations.

UV resistance: Wardrobe doors adjacent to bedroom windows in Lebanon face significant UV exposure — causing colour fading and lacquer yellowing in finishes not specified for UV stability. KLOZET® lacquered doors use UV-stable topcoats as standard; veneered doors receive UV-resistant lacquer overcoats. All finish samples are reviewed against the bedroom's natural light conditions during the design process.

Maintenance: All KLOZET® finishes clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent — no specialist products required. Lacquered surfaces can be locally repaired if damaged; veneer surfaces can be spot-treated if scratched. The Blum hardware requires no maintenance under normal use — drawer runners and hinges are factory-lubricated for their rated service life.
