Materials & Manufacturing
Technical Specifications & Materials
Long-term performance depends on what lies behind the finish — materials, surface choices, hardware, and manufacturing precision. Since 1981, these decisions have defined every KITWOOD project.
Core Materials
Cabinet Material Overview
The material used for carcasses and door panels is one of the most consequential technical choices in any kitchen or wardrobe project — affecting structural integrity, moisture performance, surface quality, and lifespan.
Solid Wood
A natural material cut directly from timber, used in furniture for centuries.
Strengths
- +Natural appearance and unique grain
- +High structural strength
- +Long lifespan when properly maintained
Limitations
- —Sensitive to humidity and temperature
- —Can expand, contract, or warp
- —Higher cost
Best Use
Decorative elements, visible frames, and classic-style kitchens.
MDF
Medium Density Fiberboard
An engineered wood panel made from compressed wood fibres — prized for its smooth, uniform surface.
Strengths
- +Ideal surface for lacquered finishes
- +Stable and consistent
- +Cost-effective
Limitations
- —Absorbs moisture if untreated
- —Lower structural strength than plywood
Best Use
Lacquered doors, painted panels, and non-structural applications.
HDF
High Density Fiberboard
A denser version of MDF with improved strength, hardness, and surface quality.
Strengths
- +Higher density and wear resistance than MDF
- +Premium surface for fine finishes
- +Better performance under contact
Limitations
- —Still moisture-sensitive if exposed
- —Not suited for load-bearing roles
Best Use
High-quality doors, detailed finishes, and decorative applications.
Plywood
Multiple veneer layers bonded with cross-grain orientation — the preferred structural panel material.
Strengths
- +High structural strength
- +Good moisture resistance
- +Dimensional stability
Limitations
- —Higher cost than fibreboard
- —Edges require finishing on visible faces
Best Use
Cabinet carcasses, structural boxes, and load-bearing components.
Moisture & durability: In Lebanon's climate, moisture resistance is a key specification factor. Durability comes not from a single material, but from selecting the right one for each role — structural components benefit from plywood's stability, while door panels prioritise surface quality. Correct specification and execution matter more than material grade alone.
Surface & Function
Finishes, Surfaces & Hardware
Surface finish defines visual character and affects maintenance and durability. Hardware determines daily function and long-term reliability. Both are technical choices as much as aesthetic ones.
Lacquered Finishes
A smooth, refined appearance available in matte, satin, or gloss. Suits contemporary and minimalist design directions — the most commonly specified finish for modern kitchens.
Consideration
Requires appropriate care to preserve surface quality over time.
Veneer
A real wood surface applied over engineered panels. Combines natural warmth and grain character with better dimensional stability than solid wood.
Consideration
Benefits from proper care and a stable application environment.
Laminate / HPL
Valued for durability: resistant to scratches, stains, and everyday use, with a wide range of colours and textures.
Consideration
Visual character differs from lacquer or veneer — choose based on the intended design language.
Hardware & Functional Systems
Hardware grade has a direct and measurable impact on how a kitchen or wardrobe performs over time. Premium hardware contributes to smooth operation, consistent alignment, and long-term reliability — it is not interchangeable with lower-grade alternatives.
